Drive Across The USA

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 29, 2011, 8:53 PM

I am leaving for Boston on Friday. Plans changed. Instead of flying to Boston and doing a loop through NH, VT, and NY I am now driving to Boston. I am hoping to arrive just as the convention my wife is attending is over so that we can spend 5 days driving to Las Vegas to her next event. I will be updating my twitter and facebook on my location and progress so if any of you are in the area and want to meet let me know. My accounts are listed on my intro DA Page.

To contact me you can send a message to my Skype account. My user name is nivaun.

Here is the map of my route.

It is if you add the 5 hours back so 10 hours total to your trip all the way to Washington... O.o That's a lot of driving, especially just to see an internet friend for a few hours. And five hours period is far. =P

Hey I'm in the Cleveland area! If you're not stopping there at least give a friendly wave in my general direction. =D

Hey, it looks like I will be going through Akron. That's near Cleveland. Perhaps we can meet for coffee or a beer. I will most definitely wave in your direction! :)

Ha, that's even more awesome, I work IN Akron and live 15 minutes from it. =D I'll be right along all the major highways you'll be traveling on (in fact I'm guessing you're taking 71 to 80 or 71 to 76 to 80)! If you give me an approximate date I should be able to swing being able to meet up possibly. =D And I got your note with all your Skype info too!

Awesome! :D It looks like I will be around Akron on Monday the 4th. I broke the trip down in mileage so that I would arrive in Boston late Tuesday. According to my calendar I will be in Columbus on Sunday night. Looks like I am taking 71/70 from Columbus to Akron and from Akron the route has me on 71/76/80. You should send me a skype text so i can add you to my contacts. :)

Thanks! Sound like you have done some amazing road trips. It is very rare for me to take a road trip, I usually head deep into the wilderness as far away from society as possible. :)

When I left Alaska in 1991 I hitchhiked from Fairbanks down the west coast, then cut across through the southern states, then up the east coast to Ogdensburg, NY and waited out the winter. After that I rode a bicycle from there to Seattle where I ended up meeting my wife. Because I went around the Great Lakes on the Canadian side and did a large loop, I missed all the middle states. So this time I am going up the center. :)

I am driving alone going towards Boston but will have my wife with me on the return trip.

I don't do well in large cities either. I grew up on small Alaska town and live in a small rural city now. I like being away from the crowds. :)

Hope it will be enjoyable! If you have never done it before, one tip is to get on the road early and off early. The later you stay on the road the worse your chances are at getting a motel room. Are you planning on seeing anything on the way?

Thanks for the tips. I plan on being on the road by 4am (which is when I wake up everyday anyway) and drive until I get tired of it. I've plotted out parks and forest to see. I plan on camping the entire way so not too worried about hotels. I am concerned about places to camp on the east coast, it just looks so populated back there and will be a huge adjustment for me to deal with.

I hitchhiked from Fairbanks, Alaska and did a loop around the US in 1991. Went down the west coast, across the southern states and then up the east coast. From Ogdensburg, NY I rode a bicycle back to Seattle. I have just never seen the middle states so am excited to experience them.

WOW! That's tremendous! Your should have no problems finding a place to camp on the East Coast, it is not as densely populated as it looks/seems.

You were right, I had no problems finding a camping spot. A few people did kick me off their front lawn though. Hahaha!
